“ST. NICHOLAS” POLYCLINIC

Supporting the “Saint Nicholas” Polyclinic in Kidamali, Tanzania

Africa faces major challenges in the field of health and medical care. The lack of access to basic medical services and limited awareness of public health and hygiene makes our African brothers and sisters vulnerable to epidemics and contagious diseases such as malaria, typhoid, tuberculosis, and the plague of AIDS. In rural areas, people are often forced to travel great distances to reach a medical center, making the provision of healthcare services extremely difficult. Residents of poor villages see medical centers as places of care and salvation—especially when, in a zone of hundreds of kilometers, they cannot find a source of comfort or relief from pain.

The Missionary Shelter of Saint Dionysios of Mount Olympus and the Fraternity of Orthodox Foreign Mission of Thessaloniki actively support the operation of the “Saint Nicholas” Polyclinic, located within the missionary center of the Holy Diocese of Arusha and Central Tanzania, in Kidamali, in the Iringa Province. This is the only medical unit in the wider area that offers free medical and pharmaceutical care, regardless of age, race, or religion.

The polyclinic is a vital hub for the provision of healthcare services to the local population and includes:

  • A pharmacy
  • A general medicine department
  • A fully equipped microbiology laboratory
  • A pediatrics department
  • A gynecology department

Our support for the polyclinic is provided in various ways:

  • Through monthly financial aid to cover the unit’s operating needs
  • Through the purchase and shipment of medical and technological equipment
  • Through the organization of volunteer medical teams who wish to offer their services to the Mission, supporting the suffering population of the area
  • Through the purchase of personal hygiene items (soap, toothbrushes, antiseptics, etc.) and the distribution of hygiene packages to the villagers

This action is part of our broader missionary and charitable work, guided by the desire to offer love and care to our fellow human beings, especially in areas where access to healthcare remains difficult.

The “Saint Nicholas” Polyclinic is sustained entirely through donations from people who believe in the miracle of giving.

Next Major Goal: Establishing a Maternity Clinic

According to studies, Tanzania has high maternal and infant mortality rates. In this forgotten region, women give birth without assistance, without safety, and are exposed to complications and infections. Every childbirth is a risk to life. Many mothers pass away in the most sacred moment of their lives, and their babies never get the chance to feel their mother’s embrace or love.

The construction of a fully equipped maternity clinic is a life-saving priority.
It is the gift we can offer—to save mothers and children, to fill the land with the sounds of children’s laughter and life, and to put an end to the cycle of pain.

Let no mother be left alone.
Let no other child’s smile fade away.
Let us become the hand of Christ for those who suffer.
Because where hope fades, our love ignites once again.
