Divine Liturgy in Honor of Saint Paisios at the Highest-Altitude Church Dedicated to His Memory in the World

On Saturday, July 12th, the day on which our Church commemorates Saint Paisios of Mount Athos, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated with the blessing of His Eminence Agathonikos, Bishop of Arusha and Central Tanzania, at the magnificent and festively adorned Church of Saint Paisios and Saint Luke the Physician, in the remote and blessed village of Masege, Southern Tanzania.

Masege, a secluded village nestled at an altitude of 2,000 meters in the Dambaga region near the border with Zambia, is located four hours from the missionary center of Kidamali. Amid this pristine and untouched natural landscape, where nature and prayer blend in a unique way, stands the highest in altitude church dedicated to Saint Paisios anywhere in the world.

There, the faithful of Tanzania, with simplicity of heart, gathered with hymns and prayers, with gaze full of light and hearts full of love, to honor their patron saint.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the joy of the feast continued with a warm meal offered to all the villagers—an act filled with love and symbolism. This meal was a heartfelt gift from the students of classes D1 and D2 of the 8th Primary School of Stavroupoli in Thessaloniki, Greece, who, under the guidance of their teachers, offered food to their brothers and sisters in distant Africa. A moving act that bridges continents and souls—a lesson in solidarity, faith, and tangible love from young children with big hearts.

Let us pray that these young students and their teachers may always have the intercessions of the Saint, whose miraculous presence is felt even in the farthest corners of Africa.
