In the heart of the African land, where learning is not a given but the result of struggle, sacrifice, and faith, the Church supports and strengthens the flame of education. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Agathonikos of Arusha and Central Tanzania, a deeply human and spiritual visit was carried out to the elementary school of Mkobe — a poor yet vibrant school, where children, despite deprivation, never stop dreaming.
Priests of the Diocese and nuns from the Holy Monastery of Archangel Michael in Iringa stood by the students and teachers. They conveyed the paternal blessings and unwavering support of His Grace Bishop Agathonikos and distributed precious gifts: school uniforms and shoes for children who until recently walked barefoot, school supplies, notebooks, bags, pencils, biscuits, and sweets.
Education in Africa, especially in impoverished areas, is not a simple process. Often, the basics are missing: blackboards, pencils, books, infrastructure, clean water, sufficient staff. Yet what is not missing is the thirst for learning. The children of Mkobe arrive at school with bright eyes and open hearts, ready to be taught.
The school principal, visibly moved, thanked the Holy Diocese of Arusha and Central Tanzania by officially presenting a letter of gratitude to the Bishop, expressing the school’s sincere appreciation for the support of educational efforts and the Church’s tangible care for the children, their education, and their ability to walk with dignity on the path to knowledge. He also referred to the Diocese’s involvement in the school’s renovation efforts three years ago. Lastly, he extended thanks to the members of the Missionary Shelter of Saint Dionysios of Mount Olympus, having learned from the priests and nuns about its ongoing support for the multifaceted charitable and pastoral work of the Holy Diocese of Arusha.
These supplies were a generous donation from the missionary team based in Stuttgart, Germany, led by Mrs. Sara Amanatidou — a tireless and compassionate soul, who, along with her team, consistently and lovingly supports every activity of the “Missionary Shelter of Saint Dionysios of Mount Olympus.” Their offering is a fruit of faith and active love for fellow human beings.
With this act, the Church humbly reminded everyone that education is a sacred mission. It is the building of hope that bears fruit even amid poverty. It is the bridge that connects today with a brighter, fairer, freer tomorrow. Every child who manages to become educated, to read, to understand the world around them, becomes a light within society.
In places like Mkobe, where children’s smiles are often overshadowed by the struggle for survival, the Church’s presence in the school serves as a silent yet powerful reminder that education is everyone’s responsibility. For where there is learning, there is hope—and where there is hope, life can bloom.
