With great joy we announce the completion of yet another important project in Central Tanzania, which strengthens the philanthropic ministry of the Holy Metropolis of Arusha and of His Eminence Metropolitan Agathonikos. Through the generous donation of a group of members and benefactors of our association from Stuttgart, Germany, led by Mrs. Sarah Amanatidou, the Maternity Department of the “Saint Nicholas” Polyclinic was established and equipped. The clinic operates at the Missionary Center of the Holy Metropolis in Kintamali, Iringa.
The polyclinic is the only organized healthcare facility in the wider region that provides free medical and pharmaceutical care to local residents and children. It already operates departments of internal medicine, microbiology, pediatrics, and gynecology, offering daily relief and hope to hundreds of our fellow human beings.
The establishment of the maternity department was carried out following the recommendation of the competent authorities of Tanzania, as the region records high rates of maternal and infant mortality. With the help of our brothers and sisters from Germany, an appropriate space was prepared and the necessary basic equipment was procured, so that women may give birth safely under proper medical supervision and care. The new department stands as a tangible declaration that no mother should risk her life while bringing her child into the world and that every newborn deserves to enter life under the best possible conditions.
For the full and proper operation of the maternity department, what remains is its staffing with specialized medical and nursing personnel, as well as the procurement of additional medical equipment. This will substantially strengthen the department’s capabilities and ensure greater safety during childbirth and in the immediate care of newborns. The completion of this effort will allow the polyclinic to provide comprehensive and high-quality maternity services, safely and consistently, for the benefit of mothers and their newborn children.
At the same time, the daily operation of the polyclinic requires continuous support. Medicines, medical supplies, equipment maintenance, and staff salaries are ongoing needs that do not cease with the completion of a project. Our association therefore makes a heartfelt appeal for the continued and steady support of the “Saint Nicholas” Polyclinic. The contribution of every compassionate person of good will is transformed into care for our fellow human beings who lack even the most basic means of medical assistance.
We express our deep gratitude to the donors from the Stuttgart group, who continually demonstrate that love knows no borders and who support with responsibility and dedication the work of His Eminence Metropolitan Agathonikos of Arusha and the Orthodox mission in Central Tanzania. With the same faith and devotion, we invite everyone to stand as supporters of this life-giving work.
